Under the South Asian Regional Seas Programme it is proposed to develop oil spill contingency plan for combating oil spill disasters in the South Asian Seas. Various modalities of action among the South Asian countries were discussed in a Meeting of the Senior officials of South Asian Seas Region for consideration of a draft Regional Oil Spill Contingency Plan at Colombo, Sri Lanka during 14-16, December, 1999 and it was agreed that there will be a MOU in the South Asian Seas for exchange of expertise, equipment, etc., during the oil spill combating operations. PD-ICMAM, Chennai, was one of the members of the Indian delegation who participated in the meeting.
